  1. Think about what you want to do after high school. Explore different careers and find out how much money you will need to live the lifestyle you want. Visit Texas Reality Check to explore different career paths.
  2. You might qualify for a tuition and fee waiver, extended foster care an/or other financial supports. Trying to figure out all the requirements can be confusing. Our favorite resources are the Texas Foster Youth Justice Project, Texas Youth Connection and College for all Texans .
  3. Even if you don’t qualify for support, every public college has a foster care liaison you can contact for questions, tours and any other information. Some colleges even have special programs for foster alumni and independent living programs .
  4. Explore housing options, plan and prepare.
